If you want to create DIY fancy dish gloves, which you can use yourself or give as a present, here you will learn how to do this on your own. All you need for these gloves is a little fabric, a pair of rubber gloves and some decorating element like a ribbon or a flower decoration. The making of these DIY fancy dish gloves doesn't require any advanced sewing skills. They are easy to be made and can be a great addition to your present.

You will need:
  • A pair of rubber dish gloves
  • ½ yard fabric
  • Decoration items e.g. a ribbon, a flower.
  • Glue for fabric or a hot glue gun
  • Sewing supplies – a needle or a sewing machine

  • How to make it:
  • First you need to make measurements of the circumference of your gloves, where you put them on. Then multiply the dimension by two and add one inch – this is the size of the length your fabric should be. For example, if the circumference of the opening of your gloves is 10 inches, your fabric should be long 21 inches and the width should be 6 and a half inches. You should cut two strips of fabric to the necessary size.
  • Fold the two strips in half lengthwise and iron them.
  • Open the strips up and placing the right sides of the strips together, pin their short ends and sew a quarter inch seam. The final result should be two tubes of fabric.
  • Now fold your fabric again in half along the crease you have made. Next you have to ruffle the two fabric tubes along the raw edges. Set your sewing machine to sew the length of your strips. Baste around the length and leave a couple of inches of thread at the end and at the beginning, without backstitching. Then gently pull on the coil thread to make the fabric ruffled. The tubes should become exactly the size of your gloves openings, where they will be attached.
  • Next pin the created ruffle to the openings of the gloves, with the raw edges together and sew with a half inch seam. It is advisable to use longer stitch lengths when sewing your decoration on latex gloves. Now you should sew in zigzag around the edges.
  • Turn over your ruffle and use a 4 stitch length to top stitch.
  • The final stage of the making of the gloves is using a hot glue or a fabric glue to stick the ribbon, flower or other decoration right above the top stitching. You can glue a ribbon, flower or other shape to cover the made seam. Place and glue the decorating element in the middle of the seam.

  • These gloves can be used for cooking as well as for cleaning. Rubber or silicone gloves can protect your hands from heated cooking utensils and harsh chemicals when cleaning. Spend the time to make them and you won't regret it.
