Upcycled Dolls House

Upcycled Dolls House

Repurpose some boxes to make an easy contemporary doll's apartment. We upcycled some open stacking units which someone was throwing out. However you could use anything with an open side -e.g. shoe boxes, wooden wine boxes or a small bookcase or bedside cabinet.

A 2x2 IKEA Expedit cube could be turned into a great dolls house

Materials
  • Boxes
  • Paint
  • Doll's furniture. We found some bright contemporary wooden furniture from Discoveroo . IKEA has also brought out the Huset range of doll's furniture which are exact mini replicas of IKEA classics.

  • Method
  • Paint the boxes your desired colour.

  • Giving the original units a thorough wash first

We chose a cool contemporary grey for the apartment

  • Decorate the apartment. We left our walls and floor undecorated so that we could stack our boxes in different configurations. However you could cut up an old towel to make shaggy rugs, stick wrapping paper onto walls for wallpaper or make interesting windows by cutting out landscape scenes from magazines.
  • Add the doll's furniture.

  • Town house

    Duplex apartment
