Although our bedrooms are usually hidden behind closed doors, we still have to look at them. The bedroom should be a haven, a welcoming space for the end of the day, and an encouraging space at the beginning of the day. How can you decorate your bedroom with as little effort as possible so that its easy to maintain?

The bed is usually the largest item in a bedroom so you need to make it both attractive and functional. Most of us acquire lots of linen over the years, and end up using odd pillow cases and quilt covers. This is obviously a perfectly reasonable way to cover your bed, however it can mess with the decor! It’s a good idea to choose a colour and have all your bedding in shades of that colour. That way no matter what you get out of the drawers, it will all match. You can pick up some very good quality bedding second hand and simply give it a good wash with some tea tree oil to ensure any nasties are washed away - although second hand stores do wash in industrial washers to ensure this prior to sale.

Pillows and cushions on your bed can give a wonderful and luxurious feel to any room. They’re just for decoration so it doesn’t matter if they have sequins or feathers or other impractical decorations on them, you put them next to the bed at night, and put them back on the bed in the morning.
Dressing tables are often covered with a whole swathe of products that end up covered in dust and mess. Try keeping it neat. Throw out anything that is old and hardly gets used. Alternatively give it to the kids to mess with in the bath - they’ll love you for it! Try buying a nice cane basket (again, your local Vinnies often has heaps of them!) and keeping your products in it. When it gets dusty rinse the whole basket under the shower .
Add a delectable scent to your room using bi-carb and your favourite essential oil. Choose a decorative glass bowl and fill it with bi-carb and a few drops of relaxing oil. Oils like lavender are great for the bedroom, lavender smells wonderful mixed with any of the citrus oils and these are all on the cheaper end of the scale. You can even add a tea light candle for a romantic evening, and the heat from the candle will release the beautiful fresh scent.

Choose a soft light globe and a lampshade that suits the colour of your bedding, and keep your books neatly stacked on your bed side table. Treat yourself to a new photo frame, and put a photo of your loved ones right next to your bed!
Your bedroom is an area in your home which should always be a haven, even though most of us have children in and out of our beds, it doesn’t mean that we can’t make it your easy on the eyes.
