If you go into any Chinese supermarket, you'll likely find a section with packs of joss paper. The papers have a wonderful soft texture and feature beautiful shades of red, orange, gold and silver. Some have quite intricate designs whilst others are quite simple and geometric. Each sheet is unique and interesting as the metallic leaf is often slightly scarred or irregular.

Try arranging blocks in a repeating pattern and mount in a frame to make an interesting wall hanging that looks good in a contemporary or vintage setting.

I made this orange and gold geometric arrangement. It's about 10 years old now and the squares need to be remounted on a new backing sheet but the joss paper has lasted well.

The joss paper sheets would also be great for decoupage - on a wooden box, tray or piece of furniture. Have you tried this? Please do share a photo in the comments section.

I've been looking for alternative options to expensive Decopatch decoupage paper. Looks like this might be a great option for me! And I have two Chinese supermarkets in walking distance of my house...
