Display the special first day of school pictures in this cute chalkboard frame. The chalkboard paint makes it easy to wipe off and write on the new grade next year.

Finished frame
*Note the picture in the frame is from google images.

Materials
Simple picture frame
Primer
Chalkboard paint
Painter's tape
Yellow acrylic craft paint
Paint brush
Black Sharpie or other permanent marker
Ruler

Method
Tape off any areas of the frame that you do not want to have paint on.
Apply a coat of primer to your frame. If you frame is old or new, the chalkboard paint will adhere better.

Finished frame

Apply at least two coats of chalkboard paint. Allow to dry between coats.

Finished frame

Apply yellow acrylic paint along the bottom of the frame. Use a length of painters tape to get the edge straight.

Finished frame
I used three coats of yellow craft acrylic paint.

Allow both the chalkboard paint and yellow paint to dry completely.
Measure out your ruler numbers on the yellow paint. Go over the numbers and marks with a black Sharpie.

ruler

Rub a layer of chalk all over the chalkboard painted part of your frame. This ensures your first writing on the frame will not be permanently etched into the paint. Wipe of with a dry or damp rag. I choose a dry rag on my frames to leave some of the chalk behind for a used chalkboard effect.

Ruler

Decorate your chalkboard frames with chalk and display those first day of school photos!
