Decorating walls is a lot of fun with the various paint color options available and different themed wallpapers to choose from. And to add more spice to your plain walls, putting up a creative gallery has already become a trend today that can surely captivate and entertain anyone. To help you build and decide on what to put up, here are 11 must-haves for your own special gallery wall.

1. Space on the wall

A gallery wall sure requires enough space to put up several pictures, frames and other ornaments to be added. It would not be called a gallery wall if you could only hang less than 3 photos. So make sure that there is a space on the wall where you’d be designing and plan ahead on how many, what sizes, and what objects to place.

2. A specific theme

Before picking out the pictures and frames to be used for your gallery wall, deciding on a theme is a must first. Depending on which room you are going to put it up, incorporate a theme to the objects to be used and make sure that they fit your personality and the interior of your house or room.

3. Mix of old and new photos

What makes a gallery wall interesting is the diversity it gives off albeit the different elements used. Consider a mix of old photos with the current pictures of yours or landscapes to make it more unique. Although matching the age of the photos is fine for a decent appeal, using old and new photos can attract even more for the nostalgic aura it brings.

4. Inspirational messages

Do you live by a quote or a saying that inspires you? You may also take advantage of those messages to show how you feel or what you believe in to your visitor and this will certainly radiate a good vibe in the room. Use a nice font that would fit its meaning or your theme for a better presentation.

5. Interesting frames

If you will be putting the pictures on frames, choosing different sized borders or frames is a great idea if you want your wall to look fun. Different colored and patterned frames are also pleasing for the gallery wall to be adventurous.

6. Iconic photos

Another secret factor to have an amazing gallery wall is the use of a photo of an iconic character. This includes Marilyn Monroe, Michael Jackson, Charlie Chaplin, or any other personality you like. Add filters to them or edit them into a cartoon for a more exciting effect to the picture.

7. More pictures

In building a gallery wall, you all have the freedom to put as many pictures or designs as you like. You don’t have to be afraid or shy because having a lot of pictures posted increases the entertainment sense of the whole art.

As long as you still have enough space to put up more pictures without making the wall look too messy, then feel no guilt for more is good.

8. An empty picture frame

Everything is all about art and a frame without a picture on it is one of the best things you could display to make the gallery wall awesome. Weird, as some people may think, but it definitely contributes to the originality of the wall and thus, your character.

9. Mirrors

If you want more assortments to your wall, including one to two mirrors would add eccentricity and attractiveness to the whole gallery wall. This may also eliminate a tiring view of having only pictures posted.

10. Lighting

Setting up lighting on top of the gallery wall to highlight it is a must-have especially to give a dramatic experience to the people who would see it. The interior of your house or room could appear very classy and innovative so try installing warm or white lighting for an improved look and experience.

11. Other wall ornaments

Other wall ornaments are wall-mounted lamps, stickers, unique abstract plates, metal wall art objects, plaques, and other interestingly designed things to hang. With these, your gallery wall would offer a very stirring atmosphere to your visitors.

A simple and elegant theme is okay where it would only need one kind of photo with a black and white theme. You would then just have to duplicate the picture and hang multiple copies of it in an organized and measured manner. But a fun and diverse one is definitely better as your creativity and free hands would be put to use to let your imagination flow through you. So take a good look on your blank wall again and grab the opportunity to expose your inner thoughts and ingenuity with these must haves.
